Should ultra-Orthodox yeshiva students serve in the army?

In the bill as filed in 2023, UTJ MKs Moshe Gafni, Yaakov Asher (the list leader) and Yitzhak Pindrus proposed that someone who devotes himself to Torah study for a long period be recognized for that in his rights and duties.

In light of the centrality of the value of Torah study and its importance as service to the Jewish people, anyone who wishes to devote himself to Torah study for a long period will receive recognition of this with respect to his rights and duties.

Who should be allowed to certify food as kosher?

UTJ MKs proposed that any term implying kashrut be reserved for the bodies authorized by law, which act under Chief Rabbinate guidelines.

The purpose of the amendment is to protect the kashrut-observant consumer from being misled, by clarifying the legislature’s intent with an explicit provision that the term “kosher” includes all terms and synonyms for kashrut from which a consumer may mistakenly conclude that a product is kosher, and that the bodies authorized in the State of Israel to grant a kashrut “standard mark” in any linguistic variation are the bodies listed in the law.

UTJ MK Meir Porush filed a bill in March 2026 to apply Israeli law to the four main cities in Judea and Samaria.

The purpose of this bill is to apply the law, jurisdiction and administration of the State of Israel to the four main cities in Judea and Samaria: Modi’in Illit, Beitar Illit, Ma’ale Adumim and Ariel.

What should the state rely on first to lower the cost of living?

UTJ MKs proposed that for price-controlled goods the law also cap the gap between the retailer’s price and the consumer price, arguing that commercial discounts do not reach consumers and harm competition.

In effect, the retailer is obliged to pass on to the consumer the commercial discounts it receives on price-controlled goods for which a maximum price has been set, so that consumers too can benefit from the producer’s commercial discounts.
